INTERIM, VOL 1

Solo Piano

This is Julian’s newest release and is the first of a two part solo piano project of original compositions. It draws inspiration from the jazz and impressionist classical languages in its reflective style. The pieces are all meant to explore various emotions that are somewhere on the spectrum between “happy” and “sad”. The nuance of jazz harmony provides a rich sonic tapestry with which to express these complex and layered feelings.

VACANT

Julian Laury and John Hooker

“Vacant” was the first collaborative album Julian worked on with John Hooker, a Chattanooga based drummer and producer. They went to university together where they participated in the jazz band and would often jam and compose original music for school shows. Their style is influenced by artists like Kiefer, Athletic Progression, and others within the contemporary experimental jazz genre that combines hip hop rooted beats with jazz improvisation.

CHRISTMAS SKETCHES

Julian Laury and the Sharp 9

While Julian was based in Atlanta GA, he would perform at the Atlanta Christkindlmarket every year with a big band that grew in size every year, from 9 to 11 to 13. The band would perform original arrangements of Christmas songs. During the first year, the band got into a studio and recorded a rough EP of a few of these arrangements. Featured on the EP: Julian Laury, Ripken Walker, Jake Sisavath, Ozi Orjioke, Josh Simmons, Jacob Blevins, Ozi Orjioke, Rodrigo Suarez

DISCONNECTED

Solo Production

Disconnected was the second of Julian’s early releases, featuring original tunes mostly composed during the COVID-19 Pandemic. The themes of the pieces and the name of the album itself are a reflection of the isolation and separation that were brought on by the Pandemic. The album features some MIDI percussion that was arranged by Julian’s father and percussionist Scott Laury.

SYMBIOSIS

Solo Production

Julian’s first album entitled “Symbiosis” is very much that: an early exploration of various jazz textures that first inspired him to start writing music. The album was composed during the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic while Julian was back home in Austria. Drawing from various influences, it is truly a canvas on which he was able to experiment and paint with a varied and unique palette of sounds.
